Assessment of Community and Social Development Project Interventions on Rural Development in Bade Local Government Area, Yobe State, Nigeria

Abstract

In recent years, the deplorable condition of the rural communities in Nigeria
has attracted the attention of the stakeholders and called for interventions.
The Community and Social Development Projects (CSDP) is a new
intervention that is built on the Local Empowerment and Environmental
Management Project (LEEMP) and Community-Based Poverty Reduction
Project (CPRP) structures to effectively target social and environmental
infrastructure at community level as well as improve LGA responsibility to
service delivery to their communities. The design of CSDP is in line with
development priorities of government and development partners. The study
assesses Community and Social Development Project on Service Delivery
in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State. The study adopts the
stratified sampling techniques to collect data from five communities in the
LGA. Primary data were obtained using well-structured questionnaires,
Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and Key Informant Interview (KII). While
the secondary data were collected from the State Agency’s record and
CPMC record, The data was analyzed using descriptive analytical tools
such as frequency, tables, percentages, graph, pie chart, bar chart and
simple regression model at 0.05 significant level. The study revealed that
services delivered by the CSDP have improved the living standard of the
beneficiaries in the study area; Hence, the study concludes that there is a
significant relationship between CSDP and service delivery to the
beneficiaries in the benefitting communities in Yobe State.
